Bill to make looting a felony passes
MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- A new bill intended to criminalize looting passed Alabama Legislature Thursday.
House bill 340 classified the crime as a "C" felony and can lead to up to 10 years in prison.
The bill was drafted due to theft and trespassing after the April 27 tornadoes.
Attorney General Luther Strange said the law is "a fitting tribute to the victims who suffered" last year.
The bill now awaits the signature of Governor Robert Bentley.
