Bentley: Amendment coming to Accountability Act

Gov. Robert Bentley said this morning he is working on an executive amendment to the state's new Accountability Act because he opposes public tax dollars being funneled to private schools.

"It has never been my goal to have a bill that supports private education," Bentley said while speaking at a breakfast for business leaders.

Later, he said he would have the amendment available for lawmakers by mid-week. A week from today is their final legislative session of the year.

Hubbard students want slower speeds near fatal wreck site

Students at R.A. Hubbard High School are on a mission to see changes at the intersection of Alabama 157 and 101.

The students are writing letters to their legislators requesting that the speed limit near the intersection be lowered. The call their campaign, "Chiefs Care."

The speed limit approaching the intersection is 65 mph.

Hatton High School junior Caitlyn Martin was killed and her younger sister Alison was critically injured on April 30, when an 18-wheeler struck the girls' vehicle as Caitlyn pulled out of a gas station to cross to a median.

Rick Hall to be guest of UNA's entertainment department

FLORENCE --; Award-winning music producer Rick Hall will speak at the University of North Alabama's department of entertainment industry at 3 p.m., Tuesday.

The event, dubbed "Coffee Talk with Rick Hall," will be in the Mane Room, 310 N. Pine St., a performance venue for the entertainment department.

The event is free and open to the public.

Northwest-Shoals Community College hosts special registration event

Muscle Shoals, AL (WAFF) - Northwest Shoals Community College is holding a special spring semester registration event for students who haven't had a chance to sign up for class yet.

It'll be held January 3rd on both the Shoals & Phil Campbell campuses, Wednesday, January 3, 2013. Registration on the Shoals campus will be held in the Workforce Development Center (Building 127) while registration on the Phil Campbell campus will be held in the Wallace Administration Building (Building 301). Open registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. break for lunch at 12:00 p.m. and resume for the afternoon session at 4:30 p.m. and conclude at 7:00 p.m.

Spring classes begin January 8th.
